I have seen numerous ways of promoting a site, some of them being if not strange, at least funny.
Of course, everyone knows that TV commercials when a lady presents a soap and at the end of that commercial, you see the name of a site which sells junk food. I never understood those commercials, but it is good that they exist, because we have something to discuss about. And the advertising is a domain where I don’t have much to say. I leave that to the specialists.

You can write the name of your site on everything, on your blouse, shirt, skirt, other clothing elements, you can tattoo it on your body, write it on your car, at your window, you can make a post-it with it and place it on your monitor, while you are at work, in order for your colleagues to see that, you can write the URL of a site on the petals of a rose, when you offer the roses to your girlfriend, instead of saying her that you love her and so on.
You can write poems about certain things and insert the name of your Website in that poem and then publish it on the sites that accept this form of expression. There are plenty of those. There are various ways of promoting a site. The more original you will be, the more visitors you will attract. When you write, for example, a short story, which apparently has no connection to your site, since you’re using a fictional character, you must tell something still that will relate to the content posted on your site.

Let’s say you write normally about pencils. You will write a short novel about Dan, a pencil which is shorter than other pencils which have its age. And the story can go on for about two pages. Make sure that at least two times to mention the name of your site, not necessarily the URL. In fact, I advice you not to use the URL directly in the content that you write. Instead, you should say: “I remember how an old pencil which was wise enough, told Dan to…” and you can link “old pencil” to your site. In this way, your site is going to be seen as the old pencil, which is wise and advices the young pencils. Anyway, you get the idea.
You know the mail boxes. The boxes where you receive from time to time a magazine, if you signed to get the magazine via your postal address or the same boxes where you receive all sort of advertising forms from your couriers. Those boxes can be used by yourself as well to place your own advertising forms. You can write a nice text and then print in on a piece of paper that can be inserted without difficulty in a mail box. Watch out for the dogs though!11
